Hi People,

I have ptosis of my right eye, what that means is the eyelid on my right upper eyelid is slightly lower than the left upper eyelid. I was born with it so theres not much i can do!

It doesnt affect my vision, and the opticians always tell me its not really noticable so theres no point getting surgery done. My friends and people at work have never ever asked me if theres a problem with my eye or anything, and i dont have no problems getting girls either!

I think its a personal insecurity of mine…looking at photos and concerntrating on it too much, and if i get surgery done it might make me feel better. However ive heard stories of the surgery going wrong or not making a difference so i dont know if i can be bothered!

What should i do?

I know it sounds kind of crazy, but I have had surgery on me as a child to correct my ptosis. I work as hard as I can on appearance and take care of myself. My uneven eyes is something that I can never change on my own though and it really bothers me that I’ll probably have to go through school one and a half more years before I can actually get surgery done. I don’t need to talk to anyone because aside from being self-conscience I’m (almost) completely fine in my own skin. I’d really rather be average looking than have had surgery to correct ptosis and have the effects of it still show. I hate the way my eyes look from the side and how sometimes it’s more uneven than usual. Has anyone ever got surgery that has made it so someone could never tell you have ptosis? Things like this really bother me and I doubt I’ll ever be able to ignore it without getting surgery. Everything I’m doing right now to make it less noticeable seems to be in vain, so isn’t surgery the only answer?

Ptosis can be defined as the prolapse of a structure at a level that is below what would be considered optimal for its normal appearance or function. In the breast, ptosis appears as an excess of skin that allows the mammary gland it contains to adopt a form that is lower and altered, which is principally an aesthetic concern since function is not impaired. (When the volume of the breast and its associated cutaneous cover are excessive, breast reduction is the appropriate treatment)

Most patients have had two or three children and are between 30 and 40 years of age, however some women may be younger and in some cases may have never been pregnant, others have lost weight and subsequently experienced sagging breasts. Dermal mastopexy can be performed at any age and although it naturally should be avoided during pregnancy or shortly after delivery, this surgery does not alter the function of the breast and allows lactation if required.

When the volume of the breast is less than optimal and there is some flaccidity of the skin, the appropriate surgical correction is the placement of an implant or augmentation mammoplasty. When the volume of the breast is appropriate but is displaced by excessive cutaneous cover, the operation should include the removal of excess skin, the lifting of the nipple areolar complexes, adjustment of skin in the lower portion of the breast and the readjustment of the form and position of the mammary tissue and its contents. In mild cases in which there is flaccidity of the skin and lack of volume in the mammary tissue, this correction can be achieved by adjusting the skin around the areolae (periareolar technique) placing a moderately sized implant through periareolar mastopexy with implants, but in moderate to severe cases the adjustment of the skin will leave a scar in the form of an inverted T of which the patient should be aware, although we always try to make this incision as short as possible, and the scar tends to disappear with time. In most cases general anesthesia is used, although it may be done with local anesthesia and intravenous sedation.

Recovery is usually rapid, the patient remains in the clinic for 2 to 3 hours and is able to return home that night. Analgesics and anti-inflammatories are prescribed initially and rest for one week. The stitches are removed in 10 days and the patient may resume regular activities, although upper-body exercises should be avoided for 8 weeks, and a special lycra garment used for that same amount of time.

http://plasticsurgerymexico.plastica-medica.com.mx

Ptosis is defined as an abnormal appearance of the eye that is usually called drooping eyes, and ptosis surgery is the corrective procedure for all kinds of skin drooping of the eyelids. Drooping eyes may be genetic, even causing the patient to have poor eyesight.

Ptosis may occur from over- long hours of being awake. The muscles in the eyes are tired causing the eye lid to drop down gradually. In some instances, ptosis may lead to some serious eye condition like amblyopic or astigmatism, if it is not treated properly, for example, by trying ptosis surgery.

Ptosis surgery treats drooping eyelids

Ptosis surgery is the common eye surgery performed to treat ptosis problem. These procedure can be done in either lower or upper portion of the eyelid. Upper eyelid surgery is use to treat droopy eyes and improve the redundant skin that appear on the eyelid through the top of the forehead. It is usually done for patients that are older and have problems with sagging eye lids. Aging is one factor why the skin losses its elasticity.

Ptosis surgery corrects under eye bags too

When the structure of the forehead’s skin is weakened, this can make excess skin hang, along the edge of the eyebrow. That may look unappealing to others. By undergoing ptosis surgery, the excess skin from the upper eyelid and forehead are restored, which provides a smooth and firm skin. Ptosis surgery can also be used to eliminate the bulky appearances under the eye, commonly called the eye bags. These eye bags are caused from formed fats underneath the eye area.

Ptosis surgery should be done by licensed dermatologists and trained medical doctors. The patient need to be more aware of that. Do not hesitate to ask and be knowledgeable about what the ptosis surgery can do and also about its good and bad effects. These are very important to ensure your safety and have the good possible results. Not all patients are ideal to undergo this kind of surgery. The patient needs to be healthy and well educated about the procedures to be made. The patient should be thirty five years of age, but for any medical reasons, younger patients could be considered. Patients should be honest on stating all about his present and past medical procedures including his family medical background. Possible candidates for this kind of surgery should be free from certain having certain conditions like hypothyroidism, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, glaucoma, dry eyes, hypertensive and patients that has grave’s disease.

Ptosis surgery will create an incision cross on the line of the upper eyelid or along the rim of the eyes. For eliminating fatty tissues, the surgeon may perform transconjunctival blepharoplasty by creating a cut inside the lower rim. To attain the best result, it is important that the surgery is performed by well trained medical practitioners or licensed surgeons.

After the surgery, the patient could experience some swelling on his eyelids that usually happens after the procedure. In most cases, the recovery from ptosis surgery will take from three months up to 6 months. Complications may happen if the newly operated areas are not properly taken care of. The treated area should be far from having moisture and always keep dry at all times. After ptosis surgery, the wound should be cleaned regularly by the doctors to avoid infections.
